review

“Yes, I want people to eat my food..but I want people to know who we are, through my artwork.”

                                                                                                                          -Alexandra Miles

I feel like this is the best sentence in her mission statement, it really gets across the concept of her place and you can decide whether or not you would like to go their based on this sentence.  "Mission statements should be meaningful and specific yet motivating. They should emphasize the company's strengths in the marketplace. Too often, mission statements are written for public relations and lack specific workable guidelines." (Pg. 41) She did this effectively and made it sound both appealing and affordable at the same time.

"I think people can walk by, and they see the menu. It’s not intimidating and the food is interesting. If they get good food, friendly service in a nice environment, people will come back and tell their friends..."
"I will educate myself about new ingredients we can find at the vegetable market, or the fish market. Also, to go to exciting Japanese restaurants, visit some shrines and temples and hopefully still see a few cherry blossoms..."
"The design is really the backdrop to great food and great service. It is the happy customer who makes the ambiance of the restaurant inviting and exciting. So I always believe great food, great service and wonderful customers put into the right space, will make a successful restaurant..."

Wolfgang Puck , speaking on his restaurant to open in Japan. He is collaborating with a Chef from Tokyo who goes by the name, Naoki. he talks about everything thing from the menu items, to the decor, to what goes on behind the kitchen doors. Always full of great business advise in adition to culinary knowledge.

Week 8 EOC creative content

dfeso as far as creative content goes i just decided to go ahead and put together a mood board of sorts so that everyone can kind of get an idea of what it is exactly that i am picturing in my head. a picture is worth a thousand words after-all. well maybe not for the purpose of this class it isn't but you get the point.
I am thinking Black, White, Grey, Tan (maybe) and a mossy green keeping it very simple and clean and neutral in every way. i don't want. more specifically, gender neutral. I am seeing black and white photos on the wall with ornate black or sandalwood frames. modern, simple, streamlined furniture paired with the exposed brick of a new york city loft. Moss graffiti on the brick wall (away from where food is prepared) stainless steel counters. "restoration Hardware lighting, with the cool squggly bulbs, they are very expencive but i think an investment i would be willing to make for the sake of aesthetics. Porcelain sculptures of birds or something nature-y next to old rusty weighs on a shelf

grey wodden floors Rough edged granite counter tops, black with flakes of  copper for shine, mason jars and porcelain milk jugs with the name of the restauraunt on them filled with lemon grass atop each table.

Business Mission Statement

Objective:
Create somewhere people can eat either before or after they workout. Primarily serving supplemented drinks and foods high in carbs and protein.

 SWOT Analysis:

S = location - I'm listing my location as a strength because it is in an area with local gyms, other bars/restaurants (within similar price ranges) and a dance studio.

W = target market, i feel like it may be too narrow. I am not sure if a health food establishment would do particularly well in this area if it weren't for the surrounding businesses. I would try to tap into the same clientele as the gyms with out directly competing with them, but offering a new experience.

O =  regulars, those who will be returning on a regular basis as they go to the gym/studio

T = the bar across the parking lot

week 8 : BOC progress on my final.

Progress, so i finally nailed down a location, it's not too convenient of a distance from my house but on Jones and Sahara, it is near a Dance studio, Las Vegas Athletic Club, A health office, Dentist and several various eating establishments so i let the location be the deciding factor as to what the theme and menu would cater to. The name is Releve. It is next to a dance studio so i used a dance term. my target is going to be students, parents of the students gym goers, and people want to feel like they are healthy.

"The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer." – Nolan Bushnell

this is the case with my work in this class as well that is why i chose this quote i thought is was more than relevant and also insightful

"If it really was a no-brainer to make it on your own in business there’d be millions of no-brained, harebrained, and otherwise dubiously brained individuals quitting their day jobs and hanging out their own shingles. Nobody would be left to round out the workforce and execute the business plan. – Bill Rancic

which reminds me of one of my other favorite quotes, if it were easy everyone would do it. i think he brings up a good point here and that is why we are all here now i believe, to be those movers and shakers" so to speak, not the workforce who  carries out the plans.

week7 EOC restaraunt.

Swing Dance Bar! BAM i got down an idea and now, comes the hard part. I was having trouble deciding weather or not it would be too stereotypical to do a "vintage Vegas" themed place but i really like the idea and i like swing and there needs to be a place for College students like myself who are not of age can go to appreciate these things.

it will be modeled after Viva! the annual 3 day rockabilly/40's and 50's Convention here in Vegas. However i want to cater to those type of customers all year around once it is over the locals are left waiting for an entire year until it happens again and i want to tap into that crowd and give them an outlet in which they can have fun things to do while they wait.

I want tons of dances, parties, sock hops, swing competitions, and tiki parties. it will be great for people who are active no matter how active you are in the community. I would have some kind of hand stamp situation to distinguish minors but set an 18 year age limit as to encourage college students to enjoy and have a place to hoppin joint to go to.
I guess this would be more of a themed event space than somewhere one would go to have a dinner and drinks but i am ok with that because we have  enough of those in town anyway. no need to try and repeat. we could try some new twist on  milkshakes, and frys.

EOC week 6: me x 3

If you could think of three items that you own that "define" you what would they be?  I hate these kinds of questions because for one, i am terrible at making decisions and love all of my earthly possessions, and two, because I don't really think about what kind of person i am i guess. That sounds bad now that I've said it but if i had to choose. One of the things that i would say defines me

EOC week 4: Marketing at Work

Buyer Decision Process
Social Class an family structure are two of the major factors to consider when loooking for your target market.  Many buying decisions are based on what is best for the family.  Buyers will also tend to purchase products based on their personalities and lifestyles. example, people who want to live a more active, and healthy lifestyle may lean towards organic foods and reject products that do not promote that life.

EOC week 3 : There's an app for that

OK, I'm thinking of an App for make-up artists that would use the camera function to scan a Clients Skin tone and tell you what the underlying hues are, then direct you to the brand of make up you are using and there would be a numbering system that corresponded. For example, say the brand is, Make-up Forever. If they could coordinate their numbering system with this skin matching technology they could use that as a part of their advertising.

Hey! Guess what, I found it.. that is pretty awesome. I can't really say that i was suprised or anything. i was also hoping that it did already exist so that i could use it i am just curious. It isn't exactly like what i was describing but it is close enough. The only thing i would suggest is making sure that you tell users to have good or consistent lighting as to get the most accurate skin tone reading and the best results. also  should include tips such as what colors match well with your skin tone what colors will look good on your face, what color not to dye your hair, best color shades of  clothing etc. etc.

EOC Week 2: Customer Service

"Express is the must-have sexy, sophisticated fashion brand for work, the weekend, or going out. It’s what’s new and what’s now for young fashion-forward women and men. We started more than thirty years ago as an experiment – an offshoot of another successful retail concept. There was nothing but opportunity in front of us and we took it."
Michael Weisse
Cheif Executive at Express
This i thought was a good example of  a good business intent, always start with the idea of providing a service or wanting tosolve a problem and that is how you will be successfull and ultimatly make your money, don't set out with that goal of getting rich that is not how you build a clientel or a steady income.
"We aren’t inventors – there are so few of those in the world of fashion today – nor are we imitators, that is far too easy. At Express, we are innovators."
" We find inspiration and trends from all over the world and interpret them in a way that is uniquely Express. And we have become the preferred destination for the latest trends." its good to see that

EOC Week 1 : My Voice

As far as professionally, when it comes to the Advertising world I am as green as they come. Everything about it is still new and interesting, and as I look upon the industry with a fresh pair of eyes I can only hope that I am able to keep up. It is funny that somebody who is still gaining basic knowledge and experience is already worried about staying relevant. It’s all about portraying confidence. I’m sure many of you are familiar with the phrase “fake it ‘till you make it.” It has been adopted into my mental rolodex of inspirational mantras. And so far has proven itself to be absolutely applicable in every aspect of my life. Not once have been able to create put together and carry out a plan from begining to end in which things worked out or looked like I planned. It’s awful. However, the trick I have learned that always helps is to just keep your mouth shut and do, and as long as your face doesn’t give you away people will never know there was a problem. A fantastic example of this is when I am asked to hair, for a show or photo shoot, or any event I general, (I do hair freelance) As long as I have a plan, something will go wrong and I end up having to wing-it. Improvisation and the ability to think on your toes are absolutely necessary traits to hold if you want to make it in both fields and I have been able to take things I have learned from each and apply them to the other discipline. I am very much enjoying my work and though I have a lot to learn, I always say yes to new networking opportunities and events that come my way.
